What’s your secret talent that no one knows about?
I am a really good parallel parker. So good, in fact, that I often get a ‘thumbs-up’ from passing pedestrians. Then I give them a thumbs-up back and we both laugh and go about our day.
What is one thing on your bucket list and will you accomplish it?
I would like to see the Northern Lights. I haven’t yet decided where – Finland, Iceland, or someplace closer to home. And yes, I WILL see them.
What is the craziest thing you’ve ever done?
I don’t know how “crazy” this is – but it was a life-changing experience so I’ll share it. When I was 25, I took the month of July off from work and went to Rome, Italy to play in a summer music festival. I got on the plane not knowing a single person who would be there, or what to expect from the festival itself. Upon arriving in Rome on a red-eye, groggy and totally disoriented, I took the Metro from the airport to the pension and when I emerged from the underground, I felt a strange sense of having been there before. I spent the month playing my flute in an orchestra made up of strangers from all over the world who quickly turned into friends. We dripped as we sat outside playing Beethoven and Verdi under the hot Roman sun, we ate gelato and took siesta every day, and at night we enjoyed incredible food and wine al fresco watching the Romans do as they do. I learned some great driving tips while there, including, “whatever happens, don’t stop, just keep going and everyone might move out of your way”. And if they don’t move out of your way, just keep going.
