Commodore Builders’ 9th Annual Dodgeball Tournament!

Twenty teams, totaling over 200 players, stormed the courts at the BU Fitness and Recreation Center on June 8th! You were there, so you know it was a night of fierce competition. Teams grabbed their tournament collector t-shirts and stopped in the recreation room to carbo-load on pizza and refreshments provided by Cox Engineering and Pavilion Floor. Comradery and true sportsmanship was paramount, as Commodore’s own, Nick McKenney, member of the Beefcakemasters, was also Gensler’s agent, making calls to recruit players right up to the opening whistle.

The courts were reverberating with excitement! This year’s roster included:  BR+A Consulting Engineers, Oxford Properties, LDa Architecture and Interiors, RDK Engineers, Studio Troika, WB Engineers, Redgate Real Estate Advisors, Nitsch Engineering, Symmes Maini & McKee Associates, STV, Inc., Pavilion Floors, Cox Engineering, Gaston Electrical, Gensler, Safdie Architects, SGA Architects, Markley Group, and AHA Consulting Engineers.

Last year’s champs, “Back 2 Back,” were defeated by Nitsch Engineering in the first playoff round, eliminating them from the competition and crushing their dreams of back to back victories. Nitsch was then defeated by Gensler, who moved on to beat Commodore Builders “Super Duper Ball Throwers” to top the South Division. It took Gaston Electrical over four minutes of play to narrowly beat out the Commodore Builders “Beefcakemasters” team to win the North Division.

The Championship game featured Gensler and Gaston. In an ironic turn of the events, Gensler, the last team to arrive, and with barely enough players to field a team, emerged victorious to claim the coveted trophy and bragging rights as the 2016 Commodore Builders’ Dodgeball Tourney Champs! Who would have thought?!? They are donating the $500 winner’s check to The National Mentoring Partnership.

The event was a great success and raised close to $4,000 for the Rodman Ride for Kids Charity! The victorious and the defeated all headed to Sunset Cantina for the customary after-party, sponsored by Gaston Electrical and O’Connor Door.

Remember “if you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.” See you on the courts in 2017!
