When Havas/Arnold Worldwide selected the historic 8-story Burnham Building for their new headquarters, Commodore was chosen to complete the 116,000 SF build-out on the 5th through 8th floors.
A prominent design element in the space is a monumental stair connecting the 7th and 8th floors. The stair is a key feature and focal point of the space, allowing Arnold employees access to a central collaboration area from their individual working zones. The style of the stair matches the design of the rest of the space and includes reclaimed wood treads, steel cable balusters, metal railings and an elevated stair plinth clad with reclaimed weathered wood.
Various materials from the historic Burnham Building were salvaged and repurposed as design elements in the new space. Antique windows were used as architectural elements and blend with other reclaimed, industrial style finishes such as the exposed galvanized metal wall panels, stacked dimensional lumber wall applications, parged concrete wall finishes and sealed concrete floors.
Four new connecting stairs and a mezzanine space were constructed to allow easy accessibility for employees to connect within the space. All new mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems were installed to create a modern and efficient office space on the interior, while maintaining the historic exterior façade of the original building.
