Commodore Builders completed a relocation and expansion project consisting of renovations to a 117,000 SF former semiconductor facility for FLIR Systems, Inc., located in Billerica, MA. The renovations included 55,000 SF of office space and 62,000 SF of manufacturing space. The construction consisted of modifying an existing 20,000 SF class 100,000 clean room to meet FLIR’s current and future needs, reworking the MEP infrastructure, reconfiguring the space, modifying the sprinkler coverage to bring it up to code, repairing the vapor emission at the slab-on-grade and upgrading selective finishes.
An 18,000 SF, two-story addition to their facility followed the completion of the renovations and relocation of FLIR’s facilities to 25 Esquire Road. Two-story glass panels connect the new addition to the existing facility. The new facility features a laboratory space and a lecture-hall-style classroom with tiered auditorium seating. A 12,000 SF renovation to the existing facility allowed for relocation of the thermography department. The addition of a penthouse on the roof includes operable windows for testing cameras and thermal equipment. Connecting the new and existing spaces required working around FLIR employees.
